Dear Mimi, |
| My girlfriend and I just got engaged. It was very romantic and we were both very happy, but she wants to wait to tell our friends and family until AFTER her sister gets married (in about three months). She claims that she doesn't want to steal her sister's spotlight - but I can't imagine keeping it from my mom and brothers for three whole months! She is not even going to wear the ring until that time! I want to respect her wishes, but I think she is asking too much and I don't necessarily buy her excuse. I don't want things to get off on the wrong foot - what I should I do?
HELP!
Bill - Frustrated in Grand Rapids |
| Dear Bill, |
| Something seems a little off. This should be one of the biggest moments of your fiancés life and most folks would shout about it from the highest building they could find! Even her sister should be thrilled about it and should be willing to share the bridal glow for a couple of weeks. My advice: talk to your future wife and then break the big news to the world. If you want to be courteous to your future sister in law you can plan for the actual event to be at least six months away from her own wedding. This should give each sister plenty of her own time to shine.
Best of luck. |
